Advances in Lipid Methodology - Five

The Advances in Lipid Methodology series was launched and edited by William W. Christie. Now, after a break of six years and with another well-known lipid analyst as the Editor, we present the fifth in this occasional series of books with topical reviews by international experts on aspects of lipid methodology. It should be of great interest to industry and academic scientists in all aspects of lipid science and technology.

Volumes 1 and 2 of Advances in Lipid Methodology, published in the early 1990s, are now out of print or almost out of print. We decided that it was not appropriate to reprint those volumes but better to publish new ones. In some cases, a technique covered in an early volume may no longer be so important and thus does not warrant an update. Others were judged to be of sufficient importance, for example silver-ion chromatography, to justify an update. In other cases, the Editor has selected new topics that he considers need the comprehensive review typical of Advances in Lipid Methodology.

The topics covered are:

  • Analysis of edible oils by differential scanning calorimetry C.P. Tan and Y.B. Che Man (Universiti Putra Malaysia)
  • Lipid analysis by silver ion chromatography Boryana Nikolova-Damyanova (Bulgarian Academy of Sciences)
  • Analysis of genetically modified oils Jan P. Hazebroek (Pioneer Hi-Bred International, USA)
  • Atmospheric pressure chemical ionization mass spectrometry (APCI-MS) in lipid analysis William Craig Byrdwell (Florida Atlantic University, USA)
  • Fatty acid profiling in metabolic disorders A. Christophe (Ghent University Hospital, Belgium)
  • Process for development of standard methods for the analysis of fats, oils and lipids J.K. Daun (Canadian Grain Commission, Canada, and R. Cantrill, AOCS, USA)
  • Supercritical fluid chromatography (SFC) — global perspective and applications in lipid technology Jerry W. King (Los Alamos National Laboratory, USA; formerly of USDA-ARS, Peoria).
